Concept Art 101 Introduction

My name is Aaron, and I am a freelance concept designer in the film, commercial, and theme park industry. I learned my trade from Art Center College of Design.

I love what I do. I feel very fortunate to be doing what I love and get pay to do it.  My path to be a concept artist was not a direct path.

To be honest, I didn’t even know concept design was a career option until I got into college.  It was then, at a book store, I saw a Art of Starwar book and by the time I closed that book, I have found a new career path: Concept Art.  It was all Doug Chiang’s fault!

When I started looking on the web for answers as to where to start and what to do. I found a couple of concept artists who were working in the film industry and learned that they went to Art Center. So naturally I followed that same path.  I m very glad I made that choice.

The goal of this blog is to be a resource for anyone who is interested to learn how to get started on the path to become a concept artist.  If I can travel back in time to give a 16 year old version of me advice on how to be a concept artist, I would tell him to follow the tips and suggestions on this blog and never quite.
